Today is National Wear Your Pajamas to Work Day. If you’re already at work, consider at least taking your shoes off. (I would encourage this every day, as I abhor wearing footwear.) If you can get away with it, wear your PJs to work if you work later today. If nothing else, pledge to wear them as soon as you get home! Creatress extraordinaire SARK wears her PJs when she writes. If it works for her, why not you? I let my daughter run around in her PJs at least once a week when she asks. It’s a fun way to make a day different, without really doing anything!
It’s also World Hemophilia Day. Hemophilia is a rare blood disorder that doesn’t allow the blood to clot properly, resulting in abnormal bleeding. This can result in severe blood loss or even death. If you can, donate blood today, or simply learn more about hemophilia. Find out more ways to help and get more information at the National Hemophilia Association.
High Five Day is today. As lame as you might think it is, high-five everyone you meet today and see what happens. Squeal, “High five!” at your curmudgeon neighbor (be sure to use your best Borat voice) and use his response, which is sure to be memorable, as fodder for a novel, an epic poem, or a toast at your next dinner party. Read Highlights High Five magazine with a child.
Keep your blood pressure in mind for National Stress Awareness Day today. Think of the most calming activity that you enjoy and whatever it is—taking a walk, relaxing with a glass of tea, playing with your children—try to incorporate more of it into your life. Strike a (yoga) pose, listen to your favorite relaxing music, breathe deeply, and stay away from this guy.
Today through the 18th, Trivia Days are also happening. Play trivial pursuit, get involved in a trivia night (our town hosts one every few weeks, if not more, for various benefits), and test yourself against friends while playing Jeopardy! Are you a trivia buff of a certain subject, such as World War II, art history, or Star Trek episodes? Try making your own game based on these facts. If you know other trivia buffs of the same subject, challenge them to a standoff (just for fun).
And to wrap them all up together… Give blood in your stress-busting lavender-scented pajamas while high-fiving the nurse, and tell him or her your favorite trivia fact.
