Move over, Bobby Flay—it’s National Grilling Month! My sister loves to joke that if it’s a food, Bobby Flay can grill it. Whether it’s a cake or a salad or dainty cucumber sandwiches, she’ll throw up her hands into the air and exclaim, “Let’s grill it!”
Really, you can grill almost anything though, can’t you? After watching an all-grilled episode of Chopped recently, I realized that grilling can be utilized for so many things beyond burgers and brats.
To celebrate the month’s theme, try some of these grilling ideas at home—or come up with your own and post them here. Remember to substitute any meat with vegan meat if you wish! The same goes for cheese, of course.
Fish: Any fish that you enjoy—salmon, trout, anything you catch while fishing this summer—can be transformed into a flavorful dish on the grill. Try grilling it on top of some wood planks or chips for flavor with a bit of olive oil, salt, and pepper. Add lemon if you like that with your fish.
Bruschetta: Bobby Flay himself has a nice recipe for your favorite oven-roasted bruschetta—only on the grill, of course! His looks a little too toasty for my liking, but many people might enjoy these smoky flavors.
Grilled Peach Sundaes: My mouth water runneth over! These juicy grilled peaches look so delectable, I may have to make some this weekend.
Grilled Corn on the Cob: This is my absolute summer favorite! Get some flavorful butter on there—maybe some oregano for a savory finish, or drizzle some honey on top for a sweet flavor—and boom, you are eating summer on the cob. This side goes with basically anything, too.
Fish Tacos: I never think of tacos when I think of grilling, but apparently they can be quite a flavorful and healthy dish when prepared on the grill. A simple recipe for grilled fish tacos can be found here.
Chicken Tostadas: Another Mexican-inspired dish, chicken tostadas can also be prepared on the grill. The marinade for these—a combination of lime, honey, garlic, and chili powder—sounds absolutely mouthwatering.
Grilled Squid Salad: Another Bobby Flay creation, this strange-but-true recipe is sure to please you squid lovers.
Filet Mignon: Why go out to an expensive restaurant when you can grill it in your own backyard? If you still want to make the evening feel special, serve it outdoors with fine china, a tablecloth, and your favorite wine.
