For most of us, we’re lucky enough to have just that, a roof over our head, a way to keep warm and come out from the elements after a long day. Having a roof signifies we have a way to protect ourselves from a harsh winter season that is just ahead.
Unfortunately, not everyone in this country is so lucky. In Seminal county, Florida families are living in their cars. Of all the homeless families in the country, it is estimated that one third resides in Florida. Here, the weather is temperate making it an ideal climate to live on the streets. 60 minutes does a heart wrenching interview with just a few of the families affected, watch the video here.
On National Roof Over Your Head day, we should take a moment to pause in the midst of the holi-daze and count our blessings. There are people living in your own city without a place to warm their feet or call home.
Therefore, it would make sense to say that this is also a good time to make a donation to your local shelter or charity that goes to support putting roofs over the heads of the homeless and now, especially families with lots of mouths to feed.
According to the National Coalition for the Homeless, you can help by simply CAREing. That is: C = Contribute (food drives, money, etc.,), A = Advocate, R = Reach Out (volunteering) and E = Educate.
Additionally you can make a difference by texting NCH to 85944 and reply YES to make a $10 donation or donate online here.
