January 1 is First Foot Day. First Foot Day originates in Scottish and Northern English folklore. The first person to cross the threshold of a house on New Year’s Day is said to be a bringer of luck and good fortune for the rest of the year, so hopefully it’s not your klutz of an uncle or that bankrupt buddy who keeps hanging around.
January 2 is Run Up the Flagpole and See if Anybody Salutes It Day, which means to test out an idea and see if it receives a favorable response. “Hey, Mom and Dad, I was thinking of running away and joining the circus. Whaddya think?” Maybe it would be a good day to see if your sweetie pie is open to the idea of marriage. If not, just tell them you were trying to get in the spirit of the day!
January 3 is Festival of Sleep Day, which I think should have happened on January 1 when everyone really needs the sleep anyway.
January 4 is Trivia Day, so whip out the old trivia books and awe your friends with your obscure knowledge.
January 5 is Bird Day, and it is significant enough to have its own website: www.nationalbirdday.com.
January 6 is Bean Day, though don’t combine it with bird day or we might have a lot of birds with indigestion on our hands.
January 7 is Old Rock Day, because we all know that old rocks are much better than new rocks. I mean, who would want something shiny and new when we could have old and dull?
